We came together as a group of individuals who knew we wanted to actively do something—anything—to make a positive difference in the lives of others. As time passed and ideas grew, a solid vision developed and the CORE. Foundation was formed. This has been a growing process and we will always be open to learning, to new opportunities, and to meeting people who also want to make a difference.
As a young organization, it can be easier to define what CORE is not, and from this, discover what CORE is.
CORE is not a big organization. Although we acknowledge that our goals are bigger than we are, we want to remain small, mobile, transparent and efficient. Consequently, we realize the importance of involving communities here in Canada and in the receiving countries.
CORE is not just Canadian. While CORE is based in Canada, we also have an international scope. As much as we are Canadian, we are also citizens of the world. We believe that we have a responsibility to be aware of what is happening within and beyond our borders and to do all we can to leave the world in a better place than how we inherited it.
It is not CORE’s goal to play hero. Although it would be easier to hand over immediate solutions to communities in need, we believe there is a better alternative. Organizations and communities must have ownership of projects to better their own societies. Consequently, we are committed to working on projects where the receiving community is actively involved and engaged in the project. There are no free rides. We expect each community to invest as much time, effort and resources as we do in order to encourage sustainability and maintain long-term relationships.
We are action-oriented. We believe that an unsustainable future is not a future. We believe that an individual’s citizenship should not dictate one’s access to opportunities, nor define a person's intrinsic value as a human. We want to engage communities.
We are committed.
We want, like Gandhi, to be the change that we want to see in the world.
